- RECOMMENDATION OF THE WEEK:

Diamanda Galás - 'Defixiones, Will And Testament' (2003)

long time ago that the carrier one of the most wondrous voices ever heard is an accomplished artist recognized in diverse areas of culture. Later this month finally released his eagerly awaited new work 'Guilty Guilty Guilty' . His previous work was this 'Defixiones'.

'Defixiones, Will And Testament' is a shocking tribute to the disappeared, tortured and killed in the genocide Armenian, Syrian and Greek perpetrated in the name of Turkish nationalism between 1914 and 1923. A song of barbarism and cruelty of the modern world. One way trip through the evil in its fullest, both the seat of victim and the executioner. But do not get confused, is not that bad aesthetically idealized and almost glorified by artificial icons of the 'dark' as Marilyn Manson but the most explicit and bloody embodiment of the dark side of human beings. Diamanda Galás

uses his prodigious vocal cords and his 'terrifying' skill at the piano to move to the hidden corners of humanity. An uncomfortable journey and reminds us awareness of these historical passages forgotten, before which we can not but blush to boast of belonging to a genre capable of such atrocities.

This uses the texts of different authors in different languages, including César Vallejo Mexican or German Paul Celan, as a testimony to the perverse duality of man, executioner and victim, "the two sides of a coin, using as a backdrop to the brooding, dark folklore of Europe that takes decades to escape his own demons.

His throaty voice, incredibly expressive and poignant and gloomy piano melodies have gone through the grimy recesses of human existence for more than a quarter century. From trilogy 'Mask of Red Death' dedicated to AIDS and hypocrisy of the Catholic Church (his brother was HIV positive and died in the late 80), which stage reached in the San Juan Cathedral in New York using biblical texts to attack the Catholic institution, has gone through so raw and direct the best expressions of suffering, despair, injustice and human baseness.

Two words, deliciously scrotumtightening, in all its breadth. Listening to Diamanda removed at a stroke awareness and frivolous this romantic conception of death and evil. I spit violently to the harsh reality. And the truth hurts, as if each verse recited by Galás out a knife soaked in acid.
